One of the biggest challenges in selling imported chilled and frozen products is making sure they never lose the right temperature throughout the entire journey. At Ecua Market we've built a process designed for exactly that: making sure a yogurt, a piece of meat, or a bag of frozen vegetables reaches the shelf in the same condition it left the factory in Europe.
From the port of Malabo to the cold room
The process starts long before the ship reaches port. Every order placed with our European suppliers is planned around sea transit times, so that chilled and frozen products travel in reefer containers equipped with their own refrigeration systems that keep the temperature constant throughout the crossing. On arrival at the port of Malabo, our team handles unloading with priority given to perishable goods, minimizing the time they're exposed to ambient temperature before entering our cold rooms.
Once at our facilities on Calle Naciones Unidas S/N, each batch is inspected and moved directly into refrigeration or freezer rooms as appropriate. We never let goods wait in uncontrolled intermediate areas: the transfer from container to cold room is done directly and in an organized way.
Daily control in-store
The cold chain doesn't end at the warehouse; it continues in the store. Our refrigerated display cases and freezers are checked daily to verify they hold the correct temperature, and we have internal protocols to react immediately to any incident, such as power outages, which can occasionally happen in Malabo. We have backup systems in place to minimize the impact of these interruptions on the most sensitive products.
This control isn't just about quality; it's about food safety. A product that breaks the cold chain can lose its taste and texture or, in the worst case, pose a health risk. That's why we prefer to be strict: if a batch doesn't meet our standards, it's pulled before it reaches the customer.
Why this matters to the customer
For the end customer, all of this process is invisible, and it should be. What they should notice is the difference: an ice cream that hasn't gone through temperature swings, a steak that keeps its original color and texture, or a frozen pizza that tastes exactly like it does in Europe. Behind every chilled or frozen product at Ecua Market there is a logistics chain looked after down to the smallest detail, from the ship to the shelf.
If you have any questions about a specific chilled or frozen product, our team is available in-store or by phone at +240 222 020 555 to answer any queries about its origin and how it's kept.
